THE BRAVEHEART TRAIL: SCOTLAND LOCHS & LEGENDS
The Braveheart Trail – Autumn 2026
Welcome Gathering
The adventure begins even before the tour itself! On the night before we set off, we’ll be gathering at our meeting point and very first hotel in Lanark, on the banks of the River Clyde, south east of Glasgow and we’d love for you to join us. This is your chance to meet the team and fellow driving enthusiasts, share stories and start soaking up the buzz of what’s to come. In the evening, we’ll sit down together for a relaxed meal where you can ask us anything about the thrilling days ahead—days filled with Scotland’s most spectacular driving roads and breathtaking landscapes. Prefer to save your energy for the big start? No problem, you can meet us fresh and ready on Saturday morning for the pre-tour briefing, right before the journey truly kicks into gear.
Day 1 - Cairngorms National Park
The adventure kicks off with our tour briefing before we hit the road north toward Perth. From there, the journey truly begins as we wind our way into the breathtaking Cairngorms National Park, following the legendary Old Military Road—a route steeped in history and surrounded by dramatic Highland scenery. By midday, we’ll pause for lunch at the iconic Balmoral Castle, a royal retreat nestled in the heart of the Highlands. It’s the perfect spot to soak in the grandeur before the next leg of our drive. In the afternoon, the excitement builds as we head northwest to Inverness, crossing the sparkling waters of the Moray Firth via the striking Kessock Bridge. Our first day concludes in style at our hotel near Dingwall, overlooking the serene Cromarty Firth—a fitting end to a day packed with stunning landscapes, historic landmarks and unforgettable roads.
Day 2 – Northwest Scotland & NC500
Today we push into the untamed beauty of Scotland’s far northwest! Leaving our overnight hotel behind, we head north toward Bonar Bridge—a charming village perched on the Kyle of Sutherland, with sweeping views of the Dornoch Firth. From here, the thrill builds as we join the A836, carving our way to the coastal village of Tongue. This isn’t just any road—Top Gear hailed it as one of the best driving routes in all of Europe. Expect jaw-dropping scenery and exhilarating stretches of tarmac that will make every mile unforgettable. Our adventure continues west along the legendary NC500, hugging the rugged coastline where mountains meet the sea. Then, we swing south to one of Scotland’s most iconic viewpoints—the majestic Kylesku Bridge, a true highlight of the Highlands. As the sun dips, we’ll settle in at our hotel on the tranquil banks of Loch Gleann Dubh. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, reflect on the day’s epic journey, and gear up for what lies ahead.
Day 3 – Applecross Adventure
We set off from our hotel and cruise south toward the lively fishing town of Ullapool, before hugging the shimmering coastline of Loch Broom—a drive that feels like gliding along the edge of a masterpiece. The road then tempts us further south, where we take an unforgettable detour to Applecross. This is no ordinary route—it’s a pilgrimage for driving enthusiasts. The thrill peaks as we tackle the legendary Applecross Pass, a road that boasts the UK’s steepest ascent. From sea level, we climb to a dizzying 626 meters, twisting and turning through dramatic Highland scenery that will leave your heart racing and your camera clicking. After retracing our steps across this epic pass, we head east to our hotel on the tranquil shores of Loch Lochy where we’ll stay for three nights. It’s the perfect place to unwind, reflect on the previous days’ adrenaline-fueled adventures and prepare for the next chapter of our Highland journey.
Day 4 – Rest Day
After three adrenaline packed days on the road, today is yours to shape! Whether you’re craving a chance to relax and recharge or itching to dive into fresh adventures, this free day is the perfect pause in our journey. Our hotel sits in a dream location—nestled between Fort William and mighty Ben Nevis to the south, and Fort Augustus with the legendary Loch Ness to the north. The Highlands are at your doorstep, waiting to be explored. From peaceful walks and fishing trips to canoeing across shimmering waters, segway rides through rugged terrain, cycling along scenic routes or even a round of golf with mountain views, the choices are endless. Whether you spend the day unwinding or chasing new thrills, Day 4 is all about embracing the magic of Scotland in your own way.
Day 5 – Over the Sea to Skye
Today’s adventure takes us west into one of Scotland’s most enchanting destinations—the Isle of Skye. Our journey begins with a scenic drive north along the shores of Loch Lochy, before turning west toward our first highlight: the story book perfect Eilean Donan Castle, rising proudly at the meeting of three lochs. From there, anticipation builds as we cross the dramatic Skye Bridge, stepping onto the legendary Isle of Skye itself. We’ll travel along the island’s spine, soaking in rugged landscapes and sweeping coastal views, until we reach the historic Dunvegan Castle & Gardens, a jewel of Highland heritage. In the afternoon, our return journey retraces our steps before heading south to the Armadale to Mallaig Ferry. As the boat carries us back to the mainland, the sea breeze and mountain vistas set the perfect tone for the evening. On the way back to Fort William, we’ll pause at Glenfinnan, where, if luck is on our side, we may catch the magical sight of the Hogwarts Express steaming across the iconic viaduct. Finally, we return to our hotel on the tranquil shores of Loch Lochy, where the day’s unforgettable memories can be savoured in comfort.
Day 6 – Glen Coe to James Bond
West Highlands as we journey south toward our original meeting point near Lanark. The road leads us through the legendary Glen Coe, a landscape so dramatic it has become one of Scotland’s most iconic backdrops. We’ll pause at the famous Skyfall filming location along the River Etive—an unforgettable stop that blends cinematic history with breathtaking scenery. From there, the adventure continues past the shimmering waters of Loch Lomond, before turning eastward, towards the engineering wonder of the Falkirk Wheel and the majestic sculptures of The Kelpies, guardians of Scotland’s myth and legend. Our final leg takes us back to the welcoming comforts of our initial hotel in Lanark. In the evening, we’ll gather for a celebratory group meal, a chance to relive the highlights, share stories of favourite drives, moments and to toast to new friendships forged along the way. The next morning, we’ll say our goodbyes and head homeward, carrying with us memories of Scotland’s epic roads, majestic landscapes, and the camaraderie of this incredible journey.
